Service
Fibre and telecoms civils
Civils for fibre and telecoms networks, from street-by-street rollouts to duct routes into data centres and business parks. We install sub-duct through existing ducts, clear blockages, lay new duct and chambers where the route needs them, install fibre cable where the work includes it, and reinstate the ground behind us.

Scope
Work included
- Rodding and roping existing ducts, and installing distribution and feeder sub-ducts through them
- Clearing silt and debris from chambers so ducts can be rodded
- Locating and clearing duct blockages, opening up the ground where a blocked section must be bypassed
- Trial holes to locate and record existing services
- New HDPE duct by open trench in grass, footway and carriageway, including road crossings
- Footway chambers
- Fibre cable installation in sub-duct, where the work includes it
- Temporary and permanent reinstatement of grass, paving slabs, block paving, concrete and carriageway
Where customers use it
- Fibre-to-the-building and broadband rollouts on existing ESB and eir duct networks, street by street.
- Duct routes and connections for data centres, business parks and industrial estates.
- Housing estates, new developments and town centres where every opening has to be closed and reinstated quickly.
Interfaces
Scope boundaries
- Fibre splicing, testing and network design are carried out by others.
- Routes, duct specifications and chamber types come from the network operator and the main contractor. Materials can be supplied by us or free-issued, as the works require.
- We work to the network operator’s and main contractor’s processes, inductions and audits.
Delivery
How we deliver it
Each route or street is planned, carried out and closed out on its own, to a programme agreed with the main contractor.
Before excavation, we check the service drawings and scan the dig line with a cable locator and signal generator. Trial holes confirm the position of existing services where the drawings are uncertain.
Every opening has a temporary traffic management plan to Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual, including the route for pedestrians.
Crews complete the network operator’s inductions before working on its network, and take part in the safety and quality audits that go with it.
Handover
What you receive at completion
- Completion records in the format the network operator’s mapping requires.
- Photographs of existing condition before work, of the open excavation, and of the finished reinstatement.
- Sub-duct and duct lengths, and the location of each chamber and opening.
