Public lighting civils

Civils for lighting column replacement on occupied streets. We break out around the old and new column positions, remove and install columns, lay the ducts, build the junction-box chambers and reinstate the footpath and road. Each column and duct run is recorded as its own job.

Where customers use it

  • Lighting upgrade programmes delivered street by street under road-opening licences.
  • Residential estates and city streets with parked cars, driveways, trees and steady pedestrian traffic.
  • Programmes that need each column’s civils measured and photographed.

Interfaces

Scope boundaries

  • Electrical work stays with the electrical contractor: ESB Networks transfers, isolation, connection, and lantern and bracket work. We sequence our work around those visits.
  • Column positions, column types and the duct layout come from the client’s design and the main contractor’s layout drawings.

Delivery

How we deliver it

  1. Before a street starts, we walk it with the road authority and the main contractor. New column positions and reinstatement bays are marked on the ground and agreed.

  2. We work to the road-opening licence: its permitted hours, road crossings at night or at weekends where it requires, and every opening reinstated or made safe before the working window closes.

  3. Near existing cables, we locate services with a cable locator and signal generator and expose them by hand digging or vacuum excavation.

  4. Quantities are measured on site and agreed with the main contractor from the records.
